backpack in the park.
slim & i put a few hours in this morning at the
for the kid in all of us event: backpack in the park
our new friend, and camp horizon alum anique.
we scored these swell volunteer shirts
we constructed the backpack & school supply boxes,
covered them with black paper and decorated them.
it was pretty fun, and i know the kids will really love all the cool backpacks.
*we got pizza too!

camp.
we're back from an amazing week at camp twin lakes with camp horizon.
the whole experience was humbling, emotional,
difficult, honest and rewarding.
after telling my cabin a ridiculous bedtime story every night
i would lay in my sleeping bag and think about the day,
and wonder how could i have been a better counselor.
could i have been stronger? more understanding? more patient?
the campers at camp horizon are resilient, incredible, and strong.
aged 8-11 years old, many have alone faced more fear, trauma,
and abandonmentthan most adults i know.
many times i would find myself so emotional,
i was unable to control my tears and sadness.
i cried everyday. sometimes they were tears of sadness and rejection,
but they were mostly happy tears of witnessing lost children
being loved and appreciated.
we constantly listened to the r. kelly song "the world's greatest". I'm not usually a r. kelly fan, but after watching the campers sing this song, do the movements and really believe in the song- i am a huge fan of the depth of this song and what it meant to these kids.
they really do have the ability to be their greatest, and although they don't always have the ability to change their real life situations,
they do have the ability to mold their lives
in a positive way and follow their dreams.
a new day, a better day is on the horizon.

she was a unique talent and it's a shame she's gone.
addiction is a scary, sad & lonely disease.

we're off.
jim, lea and i are heading off to camp in the morning for a week.
we'll be at camp twin lakes with camp horizon.
1 on 1 camp counseling with awesome lil youngins- we can't wait!
our moma girl has been eating everything lately.
jim found my beloved grace potter shirt, the tv/dvr remote (again) & two pillow cases in her bed.
(the pillowcases went to a badass duvet we got for our wedding= destroyed)
jack is so sweet & energetic. we hope he'll keep moma in line.
we will miss him & moma so much!
i know slim will miss his slack-line while we're at camp too.
yum!
my mom went to san francisco & brought us these french macaroons
from a totally posh bakery- hazelnut & pistacio.
*after camp i'm getting back into the macaroon business.
haircut.
i got my haircut- 1st cut since the locks of love donation in november.
my hair guy blake gives such great cuts- they last for almost 9 months!

hurricane laila.
laila & i met during our grad school internships at jf&cs.
we shared the intern office, treats and secrets.
laila and i became roomies with dr. suk on euclid avenue.
i miss laila. she lives in cali & has been sick.
let's all send her good&healthy&happy&strong vibes.
laila was the best roomie any girl could ever wish for-
good listener, great cook, funny story teller and super pal.
